Dr. Robert Rittenhouse is the father of Nori. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a Ph.D. in Deafness and Cognition. For 45 years he has been a teacher, a university professor and an administrator. As a university professor for 25 years at Illinois State University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, he published five books and over 75 juried journal articles on language and thought in deaf children. He has traveled internationally to lecture and conduct research in Bolivia, Honduras, North Africa and the Middle East. In 1988 he won a Fulbright to Calcutta, India. Along with his wife Patricia, Nori’s mother and herself a teacher of the Deaf at the Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville, he does missionary work in Tegucigalpa, Honduras with the New Life Deaf Ministry.
